Neuromuscular Re-Education At South Pointe Chiropractic

Neuromuscular re-education / rehabilitation is a technique used by our chiropractors restore proper bio mechanics. Nerves and muscles work together to produce movement, and this movement is controlled by your nervous system. Over time, movement patterns are formed and stored in your “muscle memory”. Pain, trauma, inflammation, swelling, and lack of activity due to injury or surgery can lead to loss of neuromuscular control and over time create abnormal movement.

Neuromuscular re-education / rehabilitation is focused on correcting the “firing pattern” of the muscle and increasing muscle activation. It is important to get the firing pattern and muscle activation optimal, before starting to strengthen and load the tissues with exercise instruction. We address these movement patterns through physical rehab, therapeutic exercises, manual techniques, and PNF training. This neuromuscular re-education is often the first step in the physical rehabilitation process.
